A rare and important carved and painted 19th C. Anglo Indian cabinet, with brass plaque inscribed "Designed and Executed at the Madras School of Arts, Dec. 1892". Made for the English market this "state of the art" Arts and Crafts Cabinet, is a pinnacle of its type. 60"H 25"L 16"D
A pair of Jamaican windsor arm chairs, with great turnings, labelled on the seat by one of the owners, Samuel E. Payne, Montego Bay. Mahogany.
Purchased in the 1970's at Harmony House auction. Early to mid 19th C.
Due to their handmade nature, one of the chairs is slight smaller in scale than the other, typical of Jamaican windsors.
39"H 22"W 19"D
A well carved small size Anglo Indian Bombay blackwood 3 part bookcase, with slide out shelves, a secret drawer, and original hardware. Late 19th C. 76"H 40"L 17"D
A beautiful 19th C. mahogany partners desk with and old leather top. These desks are getting harder and harder to find. Replaced brasses, and an early 20th C, 2" raising to the plinth base, to elevate the desk in height. 30"H 60"L 37"D.
5 carved and painted French directors or campaign chairs, original paint and gilding, from a Palm Beach estate. Will sell one singly and the others in pairs, or as a set of 6.
Early 20th C. 33"H 23L 16"D
I call this a set of 6, although the chairs vary in size and turnings, however they are all mahogany brace backs. I have yet to see a pair of Jamaican windsor chairs identical, to one another. "Don't worry be happy", may well have been the island credo, in the mid 19th C.! These chairs were found in St. John, NB, Canada. Good condition with the odd replaced spindle.
Tallest chair is 38"H 19.25W 17"D
Smallest chair is 34.5"H 20"W 17"D
